New Year's Meme
In 2008, I gained: a new apartment, new friends, a new perspective. I lost: a grandmother, some close friendships, a little naivety. I stopped: waiting for things to just happen. I started: making them happen myself. I was hugely satisfied by: finishing my first half-marathon. And frustrated by: not having enough time… ever! I am so embarrassed that I: continue to follow the same patterns...

Got it!
My New Year’s resolution is to make as many great memories as possible this year. That means saying yes to new things, spending time with people I love, and just putting it out there. This should be an easy one to keep. :)
Best Memories of 2008
early morning juice outing in SF
8th grade ‘graduation’ for my first group of students
dinner with my dad after winning FYTOY award
watching cnn on election night
finishing my first half-marathon
rehashing prom dates on the beach with new old friends :)
Simple, I know- but these were GREAT moments.
Chicago Tumblrs
Does anyone have any suggestions on good Chicago Tumblrs to follow? I tried to scan the map under the ‘explore’ page but didn’t have any luck.
Any recommendations would be excellent!

New Year's Resolution
I’m giving this a lot of thought this year. I want a resolution- singular- and I want it to be more encompassing than “learn to play guitar” or “lose ten pounds.” I’m trying to think what it is I need to focus on that will make my life as full, happy, and worthwhile as possible in the coming year.
I truly believe that every year I’ve experienced has...
Got my groove back!
Well, I’m still in Indiana (and will be for another 5 days) and I’ve finally found my groove here that keeps my good habits from home while integrating what I’ve got going on here. I ran 3.5 miles today, am back to my healthy vegetarian eating (as opposed to my cheese/crackers/chocolate/dip diet I’d been on for the past week+), and am actually being productive (lesson...

I’ve torn through two novels- Somewhere Off the Coast of Maine and A Year of Fog- since I’ve been home. Both have female protagonists I was more than a bit envious of (and bits of their lives that I am more than happy to avoid!!) but it has really made me think. (Being home makes me reflect a lot in general, as do the holidays…)
The thoughts have generally centered around...
Tonight was great because:
I got to spend an incredibly pleasant evening with all my relatives
My grandma had a table of odds and ends for her grandkids to take and I found two pieces of antique pottery that I love… yay for family heirlooms!
Thoughtful gifts just reiterate that I have a family who knows and loves me

I just spent the past few days in northern Indiana with my boyfriend and his family. They are such wonderful people and I feel so warm and welcom in their home. I baked all day yesterday with Grant’s mom. We built quite the Christmas spread:
puppy chow
sugar cookies, all shapes (the icing was truly an art)
no bake cookies
buckeyes (peanut butter chocolate balls)
white...

I think I need to use this as an example and start saying what I mean on cards and notes. :) What a compliment!

I think mistletoe is completely underutilized as a winter decoration. We could all use some more smooching.

1. How to fall in love without losing yourself. 2. How you feel about having kids. 3. How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship. 4. When to try harder and when to walk away. 5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next. 6. The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother...

Even as an adult I find it difficult to sleep on Christmas Eve. Yuletide...

Happy Christmas Eve!
I’m getting ready to feast on grilled cheese and tomato soup with my family, then am heading over to my grandparents’ house for our traditional Swedish dinner. We still have 5 or so inches of snow on the ground, and it is absolutely beautiful!
My family is absolutely awesome, and I’m really looking forward to hunkering down for the night with all of them!
I love my family
theloveyturtle:
but there is just too many of us. I need my space. You would think being the youngest I’d be used to this. Wrong.
I second that sentiment!! I love being home but it’s hard when you’re used to your own space, life, etc…. :)
I just went running and now I’m in a better mood. Yay!
I hate Best Buy.
In both North Carolina and Indiana, Best Buy officially sucks. My sisters and I decided to get my mom a digital camera for her birthday. Being the good daughter I am, I decided to get all the accessories and get it all setup before giving it to her. Well, the “bundle” package that I bought in North Carolina contained accessories that were not compatible with the camera I bought. ...
Back Home Again in Indiana
Snow is everywhere- it’s so pretty! I love coming home for the holidays. :)
This time tomorrow...
I’ll be in the car, probably getting close to Kentucky.
Tomorrow will be a looooong day, but it’ll be worth it to get home!

Oh, but I was so the female version of this.
Once upon a time...
I was in love with a wonderful boy and he was madly in love with me, and we were all that mattered. No matter what happened during my day, at work, on the phone with my mom… it would all be okay because we loved each other.
Then we grew up and fell out of love. Him first, then eventually me. We went our separate ways and new things started to matter. School, friends, future, work…...
#1. I’ve spent my entire December budget and it’s only December 16th.
#2. I bought Skinny Bitch Fitness: body. At first I was doubtful (the music doesn’t exactly synch up with the movement, and the girls are more than slightly annoying) but the workouts are great 20 minute bouts that target specific areas. I did arms and abs tonight, tomorrow I’ll do legs and butt.

Happy Tuesday!
It’s going to be a great day, so please enjoy it. We have less than 10 days of the Christmas season left, so make sure you celebrate today!

Oh, thank god it’s not Linda Darling-Hammond…
Well, shoot.
With my bum foot on the mend from Saturday, yoga is about all I can and I just got done with my nightly routine. The only problem is- I really just want to go running. I think I’ve created a monster!
New Hobby
So after Saturday’s fun, I’m a little obsessed with running road races now. I think my goal is to tackle two 10Ks this winter/early spring, then run another half-marathon in the late spring.
I’m giving myself a two week break, then back to training!
Sunday Night Bliss
Successfully have my mini-marathon behind me
Pedicure with Jess
Fresh flowers on my desk
Apartment is clean, laundry is done
Lessons are planned and ready for the week
Only five days until I head home for the holidays!

… I don’t have to chaperone our 8th grade field trip tomorrow…. yesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!
Bedtime Goals:
Wednesday: Asleep by 10 pm
Thursday: Asleep by 10 pm
Friday: Asleep by 8 pm
There is no way this race is going to happen if I let the rest of this week play out like Monday/Tuesday. No more junk food, no more late nights!
Happy Birthday to me!
I started my first day of 24 with yoga first thing and hot chocolate powder in my coffee.
24 is going to be a good year!

New iPod!
I just bought a new iPod Nano- 16 gig, orange. I LOVE it!
The downside is I spent waaaay too much money this weekend- but, A) I bought all my Christmas presents and B) tomorrow is my birthday so I thought it only fitting I treat myself to some presents!
I now have a DVD player (and I’ve been watching DVDs non-stop), some cute new clothes/boots, and an iPod nano.
Life is good!
