1968 : 2008
I just watched the movie BOBBY, and although I know its not all true, it reminded me that there are a lot of similarities of what was going on then to what is going on now. This country is involved in an unpopular war, there’s a chance for new leaders, and people, especially young people are excited about change.
Lately I’ve been asking around if people are registered to vote and I’ve been shocked to get an answer along the lines of “I don’t feel educated enough to vote.” People! Its June! If you have an hour or two, you have enough time to look up the issues you care about (war? gay rights? pro-choice rights? taxes?) and find out which candidate’s voice is closest to yours.
Below is a speech from Robert F. Kennedy that was played in the movie and really hit home with me.
Get educated. Get Inspired. Vote.
We must admit the vanity of our false distinctions among men and learn to find our own advancement in the search for the advancement of all. We must admit in ourselves that our own children’s future cannot be built on the misfortunes of others. We must recognize that this short life can neither be ennobled or enriched by hatred or revenge.
Our lives on this planet are too short and the work to be done too great to let this spirit flourish any longer in our land. Of course we cannot vanish it with a program, nor with a resolution.
But we can perhaps remember – even if only for a time – that those who live with us are our brothers, that they share with us the same short movement of life, that they seek – as we do – nothing but the chance to live out their lives in purpose and happiness, winning what satisfaction and fulfillment they can.

I agree 100%. Here’s a link that will make “educating yourself” even easier..
